According to Kyobo Bookstore data analysis released on the 3rd, sales of books related to ‘Odyssey’ (including Odysseya and Odyssea) traced a trajectory that rose straight up as the release day (the 5th) approached. The year-on-year sales growth rate began gearing up at 52.9% in March, then accelerated to 194.0% in May and 291.7% in June. By July, the series recorded a staggering surge of ‘595.5%’, demonstrating that the public’s thirst for the big screen had shifted into pointed curiosity.

At the center of this massive new-syndrome phenomenon, the book that showed the strongest presence was ‘Odysseya’ published by Hyundai Intelligence (a fully translated ancient Greek edition). Kyobo Bookstore said, “Beyond a simple film guidebook, an in-depth exploration of the original source itself is spreading,” and added, “The phenomenon in which fully translated editions and beginner books rise together shows mature consumer patterns among readers who want to dig into the essence of the text.”

Purchase indicators by age group are even more intriguing. The firepower of the middle-aged and older group that has emerged as a pillar of cultural consumption proved strongest.
