'Odyssey' Draws 290,000 on Opening Day, Breaking 'Spider-Man 4' Stranglehold to Claim No. 1

The ambitious project 'Odyssey' by legendary filmmaker 'Christopher Nolan' pulled in 290,000 viewers on its first day of release, instantly toppling the long-standing solo reign of 'Spider-Man 4' (Spider-Man: Brand New Day).

According to data from the Integrated Ticketing Network for movie theater admissions as of the 6th, 'Odyssey', which unveiled itself the previous day, attracted about 291,000 viewers (accounting for a 44.8% share of ticket sales), taking the No. 1 spot at the box office. The figure easily beat 'Spider-Man 4', which drew about 273,000 viewers. It marks the third-highest opening score among films released this year and the No. 3 record within Nolan’s filmography, following 'Oppenheimer' and 'The Dark Knight Rises'.

Bringing Homer’s immortal epic to the screen, the film closely examines the challenging homecoming journey of the hero of the Trojan War, 'Odysseus' ('Matt Damon'). Viewers who went to theaters are showering praise on the film’s overwhelming visual grandeur and sweeping sound—perfectly realizing ancient Greek mythology—as well as its sharp message that reinterprets classics through a modern sensibility.
