[First Reactions] Cineplay Critic’s Rating for ‘Wild Horse Nine’

A feast of Martin McDonagh’s razor-sharp dialogue and black comedy. By treating a conspiracy theory as accepted fact, the story can be read however viewers choose: as an ode to a world that has lost its way, or as the confession of a man who helped make it that way. Threads of truth and lies, freedom and power, memory and forgetting are woven together with genuine humor and wit. John Malkovich’s gaze transforms a cantankerous old man into a veteran soldier full of regret in an instant, while Sam Rockwell’s performance in another collaboration with Martin McDonagh leaves a deep impression.
