A magical winding clock that transcends time and space, and a fantasy world that sparks the imagination

The ambitious animated film The Cat in the Hat from American film studio Warner Bros. arrives in Korean theaters on the 6th.

The film is based on the book of the same name by Dr. Seuss, beloved around the world. It brings to the screen the extraordinary story of The Cat in the Hat, who works at the secret research institute I.I.I.I (Institute for the Institution of Imagination and Inspiration), heralding the arrival of a finely crafted family film.

I.I.I.I is a special institute that brings children limitless joy. Its key agent, The Cat in the Hat, is second to none at bringing smiles back to gloomy children, but has one fatal flaw: his missions tend to leave everything around him in chaos.

After a string of mishaps puts his job at the institute in jeopardy, he takes on a mission with his career on the line: bringing smiles to siblings Gabby and Sebastian, who have fallen into deep sadness after moving to an unfamiliar neighborhood.

But the quest to cheer up the siblings, who have firmly closed their hearts, is far from easy. To make matters worse, the magical winding clock—his secret weapon for the children, which lets him control time at will—goes missing, setting off an unpredictable adventure. As the search for the clock unfolds, the siblings’ ordinary home and moving boxes expand into a vast fantasy world, heightening the visual spectacle.

A colorful cast of characters adds to the film’s richness, alongside The Cat in the Hat. The eccentric supporting characters—including Sherry from human resources, strict boss Hugboom, quirky goldfish Waffles, and Thing, with blue hair and a red outfit—bring the animation’s signature playful, optimistic energy to life.

The star-studded voice cast and creative team also inspire confidence in the film. In the original Hollywood version, accomplished actor Bill Hader, known for his work on the hit comedy show Saturday Night Live (SNL), takes the lead and brings the character to life. In the Korean dub, acclaimed actor Jo Jung-suk is making his first-ever foray into animation voice acting, generating a buzz ahead of the film’s release.

The film is co-directed by Alessandro Carloni, who helmed the 2016 global hit Kung Fu Panda 3, and Erica Rivinoja. Together, they are set to deliver a compelling story and stunning visuals.
