'Omniscient Reader' Creator Says, "Just as Kim Dokja Supports Yoo Joonghyuk, I Support This Movie"

The creator of the globally beloved web novel 「Omniscient Reader」, Sing Shong, has provided answers regarding the film adaptation. In a Q&A released by the distributor Lotte Entertainment on the 24th, he expressed gratitude for the production team's efforts, stating, "The cinematic reinterpretation was refreshing."

While acknowledging some disappointments with the film adaptation, Sing Shong revealed that he was deeply impressed by the passion of the production team he witnessed on set. He recalled, "Numerous staff members were working hard to direct a single scene in a large set."

Watching the repeated filming of the same scene, the author felt a special sentiment. He mentioned, "I thought about Yoo Joonghyuk, who repeats an endless regression, and Kim Dokja, who watches that story."

'Omniscient Reader' is a story where the world of the novel becomes reality, and the only reader, Kim Dokja, writes a new ending alongside the characters. The core character, Yoo Joonghyuk, possesses the ability to 'regress' by dying and coming back to life to start the quest from the beginning. Although he sometimes strays down a twisted path due to the ennui and doubts about humanity caused by constant repetition, Kim Dokja believes in and supports him.

Sing Shong stated, "Just as Kim Dokja supports Yoo Joonghyuk, I also support this movie with a similar sentiment."

The author also expressed understanding regarding the difficulty of condensing the vast world of the original work into a 2-hour film. Unlike the original, which has no limits on length and imagination, creating a quality work in video form would have been "somewhat challenging," according to the author.

Regarding the appearance of the monsters in the film, the evaluations from original fans have been mixed. Sing Shong acknowledged, "In fact, the creatures that appear in the movie differ somewhat from what I imagined," but he also understood the production team's struggles, stating, "I believe there were various concerns during the process of bringing them to life."

He positively evaluated the transformation of the creatures, which were objects of fear in the original work, into a more mystical image in the film. He said, "I think it has become an appearance that can appeal to a wider age group," and added, "Since the visualization is a reinterpretation of the original work, it was a meaningful attempt."

Finally, Sing Shong stated, "For readers who have read the original in advance, I believe this movie will be remembered as an experience of reading 'Omniscient Reader' again from a different perspective, and for audiences encountering this world for the first time, it will be a unique and new cinematic experience."
