Brandon Blackstock, the ex-husband of pop star Kelly Clarkson and a talent agent, has passed away at the age of 48 after a three-year battle with cancer. His family announced the news of his passing in an official statement on Thursday.
A family spokesperson stated in a message sent to various media outlets, "It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of Brandon Blackstock's passing. Brandon fought bravely against cancer for over three years and passed away peacefully with his family by his side." They added, "We appreciate your warm thoughts and prayers, and ask that you respect the family's privacy during this difficult time."
The announcement of his death came a day after Clarkson revealed that she would be postponing her Las Vegas residency shows due to Blackstock's illness. Clarkson stated on Instagram the day before, "I have to postpone the August dates for the Las Vegas studio sessions. I usually don’t share personal matters, but for the past year, the kids' father has been ill, and I need to be there for them at this moment."
Clarkson and Blackstock were married in 2013. Blackstock's father, Narvel Blackstock, was previously Clarkson's manager. The couple has an 11-year-old daughter, River Rose, and a 9-year-old son, Remington Alexander, and Blackstock has two other children from a previous marriage.
However, their marriage was not smooth. Clarkson filed for divorce in 2020, which led to a complicated legal battle. According to People magazine, the Montana ranch became a "point of contention" during the divorce process, and while Clarkson ultimately gained ownership of the ranch, she lost the legal battle to evict Blackstock, who was living there at the time. Their divorce was finalized in 2022.
In March, when Clarkson was absent from her talk show for nearly two weeks, various celebrities filled in as guest hosts. Clarkson later explained her absence as due to "personal reasons," but fans speculated it was related to Blackstock. NewsNation later reported that Blackstock was ill and Clarkson skipped the show taping to take the kids to their father.
Clarkson's remaining performances at Caesars Palace Colosseum, famous for her hit "Since U Been Gone," were scheduled for August 8-9 and 15-16 but have been postponed. Her next performance is already planned for November.
