'Stranger Things' Duffer Brothers Sign 4-Year Exclusive Deal with Paramount... Leaving Netflix

The creators of Netflix hit 'Stranger Things', the Duffer Brothers, have signed a new exclusive deal with Paramount.

Joining Paramount with a 4-Year Exclusive Contract

The Duffer Brothers, consisting of Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, recently announced that they have signed a four-year exclusive deal for film, television, and streaming projects with Paramount, which has merged with Skydance.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Duffer Brothers' Netflix contract ends in April 2026. Following the end of the contract, the Duffer Brothers and their production partner Hilary Leavitt's Upside Down Pictures will begin developing projects for Paramount Pictures, Paramount Television, and Paramount Direct to Consumer.

Expressing 'Lifelong Dream Realization'

"We are beyond thrilled to join the Paramount family," Matt and Ross Duffer said in a joint statement on Tuesday. They added, "Presenting bold and original films on the big screen is not just exciting, but the realization of a lifelong dream."

Final Season of 'Stranger Things' and Netflix Projects

The Duffer Brothers are best known for the fifth and final season of 'Stranger Things', which is set to stream on Netflix this fall. They also wrote and directed the psychological thriller film 'Hidden' in 2015 and were involved in the production of 'Wayward Pines', which aired for two seasons on Fox from 2015.

They are currently working on two projects for Netflix, 'Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen' and 'The Burrows', and have plans to build the 'Stranger Things' franchise. The Duffer Brothers stated that they will continue to collaborate with Netflix on these projects.

First Major Deal After Paramount Skydance Merger

The deal with the Duffer Brothers was made shortly after Paramount officially merged with Skydance. Chairman and CEO David Ellison stated in a public letter earlier this month that the company aims to invest in "high-quality storytelling and cutting-edge technology" to help define "the next era of entertainment."
