The organizing committee of the Busan International Film Festival announced on the 3rd that it has appointed Director Na Hong-jin as the chair of the jury for the newly introduced competitive section, the 'Busan Award'. This new section aims to highlight the relevance and expansiveness of Asian cinema while balancing the evaluation of outstanding artistic quality and contributions.
The jury is composed of directors, actors, and producers who are actively working around the world. Director Na Hong-jin will oversee the evaluation of 14 major Asian works selected for the competitive section as a representative emerging master of South Korea.
Hong Kong's representative actor Tony Leung, Indian actor and director Nandita Das, and Iranian New Wave leading female director Marjane Satrapi will participate as jurors. Additionally, director Kogonada, known for the film 'Columbus', Indonesian producer Yulia Evina Bhara, who has contributed to expanding the filmmaking base in Southeast Asia, and global actor Han Hyo-joo will also join the jury.
The 'Busan Award' will present a total of five categories: Grand Prize, Best Director, Jury Special Award, Best Actor, and Artistic Contribution Award, with winners announced at the closing ceremony. The 30th Busan International Film Festival is scheduled to take place for ten days from the 17th to the 26th at the Busan Cinema Center.
