Maybe Happy Ending, which made history for Korean original musicals by winning 6 categories at the American Tony Awards, will take the stage this October to celebrate its 10th anniversary since its domestic premiere.
The production company NHN Link announced on the 8th that the 10th anniversary performance of Maybe Happy Ending will be held at the Doosan Art Center's Yeonggang Hall from October 30 to January 25 next year.
Set in a near-future Seoul, this musical depicts the journey of robots Oliver and Claire, created to help humans, as they come to realize the emotion of love. Co-created by Will Aronson and Park Cheon-hyu, this work made its way to Broadway last year with an overseas cast and crew.
At this year's Tony Awards, it became the first Korean original musical to win 6 categories, including Best Musical, Best Actor in a Musical, and Best Lyrics/Composition, captivating Broadway. This achievement is regarded as unprecedented in the history of Korean musicals.
In the 10th anniversary performance, Jeon Mi-do and Choi Soo-jin, who played Claire during the original production in 2016, will return to the stage. Park Ji-yeon, who appeared in the 2018 revival, along with Park Jin-joo and Bang Min-ah, will also join as Claire.
The role of Oliver will be reprised by original cast member Kim Jae-beom, with Shin Sung-min, Jeon Sung-woo, and Jung Hwi also performing. The role of Oliver's former owner James will be played by Lee Si-an, Ko Hoon-jung, and Park Se-hoon.
The venue for this performance will expand from 350 seats to 550 seats, with new perspectives and interpretations added.
Creators Will Aronson and Park Cheon-hyu stated, "It feels like a small miracle that this performance has continued for so long," and added, "We hope that the audience who will meet Maybe Happy Ending anew will find a small encouragement and comfort in this story and music that knock on the doors of their hearts and open them."
The two creators also hinted, "After this performance, we will present a Korean version of the Broadway show in the United States."
