Lee Byung-hun said he was surprised that a scene he shot playfully during the filming of 〈No Other Choice〉 was used.
On September 24, Lee Byung-hun met with reporters at a cafe in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and mentioned the ad-lib that Director Park Chan-wook requested during the filming of 〈No Other Choice〉. The scene captures a couple's quarrel between Mansoo (Lee Byung-hun) and his wife Miri (Son Ye-jin), where Mansoo responds to Miri saying, 'You are a dog to everyone equally' with a barking sound.
Lee Byung-hun said this idea was from Director Park Chan-wook, stating, “Originally, I had lines, but the director asked me to bark instead of saying the lines. I thought it was a joke, but he really wanted me to do it,” sharing the anecdote about the scene.
Later, Lee Byung-hun added, “(After watching the footage) the director seemed to imply that he wouldn’t use it, but it ended up in the movie,” expressing his curiosity about how the audience would react.
〈No Other Choice〉, which was first unveiled at the Venice International Film Festival, tells the story of Mansoo, who was laid off due to the recession in the paper industry, eliminating competitors to find reemployment. It was released on September 24.
