The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Netflix has agreed to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery (hereinafter referred to as 'Warner Bros.') for 72 billion dollars (approximately 106 trillion won). 'Warner Bros.' was created by the merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery in 2022, and owns film and TV studios as well as the streaming service 'HBO Max', CNN, and cable channels including TNT and Discovery.

According to WSJ, 'Warner Bros.' plans to complete the corporate spin-off of its cable broadcasting division before the sale is finalized. In June, it announced plans to separate its streaming and studio business from its cable broadcasting division into individual companies by next year.

If the merger between 'Netflix' and 'Warner Bros.' is successful, it is expected to bring significant changes to the entertainment industry with the combination of the world's largest streaming service and a leading Hollywood studio.
