"The man who is as cool as the other side of the pillow returns to us tonight."
The legendary anchor, the late Stuart Scott, who completely changed the grammar of sports broadcasting, comes back to life in a documentary.
On the 10th at 9 PM (local time), ESPN will air the latest installment of the award-winning documentary series '30 for 30' titled 'Boo-Yah: A Portrait of Stuart Scott'.
◆ "He Changed the Culture"
Directed by Andre Gaines, this documentary traces Scott's revolutionary journey, who joined ESPN in 1993 and boldly integrated hip-hop and pop culture into sports journalism.
He popularized the catchphrase "Boo-yah" and brought the language of rappers to the news desk, infusing 'swag' into the rigid sports commentary. Gaines remarked, "He didn't just change journalism; he changed culture. He made visible those who had no opportunity to hold a microphone."
◆ Unreleased Home Videos and Testimonies from Stars
The documentary includes unreleased home videos shot by Scott, showcasing his human side. Additionally, NBA legends like Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal, who shared the era of Michael Jordan, along with fellow anchors, reflect on him.
◆ "Cancer is Not a Game You Lose by Dying"
Scott was diagnosed with appendiceal cancer in 2007 and battled it for seven years before passing away at the young age of 49 in January 2015. However, his acceptance speech at the 2014 ESPY Awards remains forever memorable.
"Just because you die doesn't mean you lose to cancer. Cancer wins based on how you live, why you live, and the way you live."
This documentary is released in conjunction with ESPN's cancer research fundraising event, 'V Week', adding to its significance.
