'Shopaholic' Mother Sophie Kinsella Passes Away... After Battling Brain Tumor at Age 55

The author who created the lovable, clumsy protagonist 'Becky Bloomwood' and brought laughter and comfort to women around the world, Sophie Kinsella, has laid down her pen and passed into eternal rest.

According to local media in the UK and her family, Sophie Kinsella (born Madeleine Sophie Wickham) peacefully passed away at her home on the morning of the 10th. She was 55 years old.

Her family announced the sad news through an Instagram statement. They said, "She fought against the aggressive brain tumor (glioblastoma) diagnosed in 2022 with unimaginable courage."

They continued, "Her final days were filled with family, music, warmth, and the joy of Christmas (which she loved)," expressing deep sorrow, stating, "It is hard to imagine a world without her shining life and love."

Growing up in London with teacher parents and dreaming of being a pianist, Madeleine Wickham hit a turning point in her life in 2000 under the pen name 'Sophie Kinsella.'

Her book 'The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic' depicted the misadventures of a shopping-addicted financial journalist and gained explosive popularity. The series continued for a total of 10 volumes, selling over 50 million copies in 60 countries worldwide, and was adapted into a Hollywood film starring Isla Fisher in 2009.

The publisher stated, "Kinsella defined and evolved the genre of 'romantic comedy' by adding wit and emotional depth to realistic issues."

In 2024, while battling cancer, Kinsella fulfilled her calling as a writer by publishing a novella reflecting her experience with illness, 'What Does It Feel Like?'. This was her final gift to her readers.
