The star of the hit song 'Trap Queen' that took the Billboard charts by storm, rapper Fetty Wap (34, real name Willie Junior Maxwell II) has come out of prison. It has been about 3 years since he was incarcerated for drug trafficking charges.

According to foreign media such as TMZ and Variety on the 9th (local time), Fetty Wap was released early from federal prison on January 8 and has been switched to home confinement in Philadelphia.

◆ Early release after 3 years of a 6-year sentence

Fetty Wap was sentenced to 6 years in prison in May 2023 for participating in a large-scale drug distribution organization involving over 500g of cocaine. His original release date was set for after December 2026, but he was recognized for his exemplary behavior at the low-security facility FCI Sandstone in Minnesota and was released about 11 months early.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) confirmed that he will be under supervision until November 8, 2026. He is not completely free and will be subject to strict probation for the next 5 years. This includes random drug testing and a ban on opening financial accounts without federal agent approval.

◆ "I will live a life helping youth"

Immediately after his release, Fetty Wap issued a statement thanking his family and fans for their prayers and support. He particularly hinted at meaningful actions related to his trademark 'one eye' (vision loss due to glaucoma). He stated, "I will give back to society through foundation activities that expand education and skills training for at-risk youth, as well as support for vision care."

◆ Music that didn't stop even in prison

Fetty Wap, who burst onto the scene with his debut song 'Trap Queen' reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2015, continued to hit the top of the hip-hop scene with hits like '679' and 'My Way'. Even while serving his sentence in May 2025, he released the single 'Forever', showing he did not let go of his passion for music.

As he returns to society after shedding his prison uniform, the hip-hop community is watching closely to see if he can erase the shadow of crime and make a comeback through music and charitable activities.
