Director Oh Jiin's Short Film 'Speedy!' Invited to Compete at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival

Director Oh Jiin's short film 〈Speedy!〉(Speedy!) has been selected as a candidate for the short film competition in the 'Generation K Plus' section at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival, once again proving the strength of Korean short films.

The Berlin Film Festival officially announced on the 21st that 〈Speedy!〉 has been confirmed as a competitor in the Generation section. 'Generation' is a special section that screens works that delicately illuminate the lives and growth processes of children and adolescents, some of which are presented in a competitive format.

〈Speedy!〉 is a work that unfolds the challenges and frustrations of a 9-year-old boy, Jung-min, who aspires to become a speed reading prodigy, set against the backdrop of 1989. Child actor Kim Gyu-na, who delivered a remarkable performance in the drama 〈A Hundred Memories〉, and Lim Seung-min from the film 〈Past Lives〉 star in the lead roles.

Director Oh, a graduate of Columbia University's Film MFA program, produced this work as his graduation project, receiving production support from the company 'Indian Paintbrush'.

Sebastian Macht, programmer for the Generation section of the Berlin Film Festival, evaluated the work, stating, "The energy and unique sense of humor of the film, the vibrant performances of the actors, and the bold visual style left a deep impression." He added, "While unfolding the heavy themes of expectations and performance pressure faced by the younger generation with a lively rhythm, it does not lose its warm gaze towards the characters."

The 76th Berlin International Film Festival will be held from the 12th to the 22nd of next month in Berlin, Germany. Korean films invited include Hong Sang-soo's 〈THE DAY SHE RETURNS〉 in the Panorama section, Jeong Ji-young's 〈My Name〉 in the Forum section, and Yoo Jae-in's 〈En Route To〉 in the Generation 14 Plus competition section, showcasing the diversity and artistry of Korean cinema on the world stage.
