Fantagio, the agency of singer and actor Cha Eun-woo, who is currently serving in the military, has issued an official statement regarding the tax-related controversy.
On the 22nd, Fantagio stated, "We plan to actively clarify the issues related to the interpretation and application of the law through proper procedures," and added, "We will sincerely cooperate to ensure that the related procedures are completed swiftly."
This controversy began with reports that Cha Eun-woo received a notice from the National Tax Service regarding a reassessment of 2 billion won in income tax. Some media outlets reported that Cha Eun-woo had signed a management service contract with a company established by his mother, applying a corporate tax rate lower than the personal income tax rate.
Fantagio clarified, "The key issue in this matter is whether the company established by Cha Eun-woo's mother is subject to substantial taxation," and stated, "As of now, there has been no final confirmation or notification."
The agency added, "Cha Eun-woo promises to faithfully fulfill his tax reporting and legal obligations as a citizen of South Korea in the future."
Meanwhile, Cha Eun-woo enlisted in the Army as an active duty soldier in July of last year and is currently serving in the military.
