The film 〈Super Mario Galaxy〉 surpassed 1 million theatergoers on day 7 of its release today (the 5th). According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network, as of 7:18 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 〈Super Mario Galaxy〉 drew a cumulative audience of 1,000,007, surpassing 〈Project Hail Mary〉 (which hit 1 million on day 11) and achieving the impressive feat of reaching 1 million at the fastest pace among foreign films released this year. This is also a full three days faster than 〈Salmockji〉, which crossed 2.6 million attendees, and an additional one day faster than the previous film 〈Super Mario Brothers〉, further underlining the significance of its momentum.

〈Super Mario Galaxy〉 has, since its release, been steadily building audience numbers, fueled by word of mouth as a representative hit for the Month of May Family Month that the whole family can enjoy together. In particular, during the Children’s Day holiday, it recorded a surge in viewership demand, driving strong box-office performance nationwide. “Both my 8-year-old son and my 40-something dad were totally hooked. Be sure to go see it in theaters. If it’s 4D, even better!” (Naver ys***), “I liked the dazzling visuals and the way the story unfolds, swinging between surprises and laughs. It was a movie that couldn’t possibly be boring if you like Nintendo, and I really enjoyed it.” (Naver tu****), “A movie where the best fan service came through in the flashy cinematography” (Naver fo***), and so on—adding plenty of fun to look forward to, an upbeat storyline, and relatable elements that resonate across generations, audiences of all ages continue to share enthusiastic reviews. As a result, attention is focused on how far 〈Super Mario Galaxy〉 can keep breaking records.
