'The Phantom of the Opera' returns for 40th anniversary with three musical geniuses unveiled

Legendary production returns with a flawless cast lineup

The immortal musical masterpiece 'The Phantom of the Opera', which has captivated audiences around the world, has unveiled a powerhouse cast for its historic 40th-anniversary production. S&Co., the show's producer, officially announced on the 21st that actors 'Choi Jae-rim', 'Jeon Dong-seok' and 'Park Kang-hyun' will lead the milestone production.

They will take the stage at Seoul's Blue Square from Dec. 22 through Feb. 28 of the following year. Each will play the role of the 'Phantom', a musical genius who hides a devoted love story beneath his rage and despair, bringing a distinct charisma and deeply layered interpretation to the character.

New muses carry on the production's 40-year legacy

The role of 'Christine'—the gifted singer with a heavenly voice who forms another central pillar of the story—will be played by 'Lee Hae-won' and 'Choi Sun-ho', bringing fresh energy to the production. In addition, 'Song Won-geun' and 'Kim Sung-sik' have been cast as 'Raoul,' the aristocratic young man whose unwavering love for Christine promises a perfect ensemble.

'The Phantom of the Opera' tells the tragic love story of the 'Phantom,' who lives hidden in the labyrinth beneath the Paris Opera House, and 'Christine,' who rises from an unknown ensemble member to become a prima donna. The masterpiece, which has won more than 70 awards across major international ceremonies, including the Tony Awards and Olivier Awards, will once again demonstrate the pinnacle of stagecraft befitting its 40-year legacy.
