JTBC's new weekend drama 'Esquire: Lawyers Who Dream of Being Lawyers' (hereafter 'Esquire') started with a nationwide rating of 3.7% in its first broadcast. According to the results released by Nielsen Korea on the 3rd, this figure indicates the initial response to the drama that deals with the fierce daily lives of lawyers working in the litigation team of a large law firm.
The first episode centered on the meeting between partner lawyer Yoon Seok-hoon (Lee Jin-wook) of the law firm Yullim and new lawyer Kang Hyo-min (Jung Chae-yeon). Yoon Seok-hoon pointed out the lack of a sense of time to Kang Hyo-min, who was late for the job interview, and ordered her to leave, but Kang Hyo-min eventually joined Yullim Law Firm with her excellent legal logic and creative answers. Afterward, Kang Hyo-min expressed her intention to apply to Yoon Seok-hoon's team, who had treated her coldly, and the tension and cooperative relationship between the two characters is expected to develop in earnest.
The contrasting character combination of the cold and strict Yoon Seok-hoon and the somewhat clumsy yet fresh-minded Kang Hyo-min is expected to realistically depict the competition and growth process within the large law firm.
Meanwhile, Channel A's new drama 'Travel Instead' (starring Gong Seung-yeon) recorded a viewership rating of 0.6% in its first episode, while MBC's Friday-Saturday drama 'Mary Kills People' (starring Lee Bo-young and Lee Min-ki) showed a rating of 2.1% in its second broadcast.
On the other hand, KBS 2TV's weekend drama 'Eagle Five Brothers' nearing its end recorded the highest viewership rating of 18.2% among terrestrial, general programming, and cable broadcasts, showing strong performance.
