"Everyone has felt like 'I might be a little strange' at some point. In school, in society, even among family. So maybe being a little strange is actually normal. That's why I find ordinary people scarier and misfits more comfortable."

Tim Burton, who visited Korea to celebrate the release of Netflix's original series 〈Wednesday〉 Season 2, explained the reason for centering quirky characters in his works for over 40 years during a press conference held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 11th.

With unique films like 〈Beetlejuice〉, 〈Edward Scissorhands〉, and 〈Batman〉, Director Burton has established a unique position in Hollywood. He challenged series direction for the first time with 〈Wednesday〉 in 2022. This work features Wednesday Addams, the daughter of the 〈Addams Family〉, which started as a newspaper comic in the 1930s, was made into a 1960s American comedy-drama, and then into a film in the 1990s.

Season 1 recorded the highest viewership ratings for an English series on Netflix, creating a global sensation. Season 2 Part 1, produced on the back of this success, was released on the 6th.

Director Tim Burton commented on the success of Season 1, saying, "In fact, we made Season 1 without knowing whether it would be successful or not. If we had overanalyzed the factors for success, Season 1 would not have yielded good results, and that's why I made Season 2 as my heart directed."

He also emphasized his philosophy, stating, "If you keep thinking about the audience's perspective, the work becomes like a commercial product. It's important to protect my individuality and not to try too hard to find common ground with the public."

At the core of 〈Wednesday〉 are unique and bold female characters that have repeatedly appeared in Tim Burton's films. The main character Wednesday and the werewolf girl Enid Sinclair are prime examples.

Jenna Ortega, who plays Wednesday, expressed her affection for her character, saying, "Girls who can speak honestly and confidently without falling into the typical girl image are the most lovable. Strange kids deserve to be loved."

Emma Myers, who plays Enid, described her character as "an honest girl who doesn't care about what others think, and a lovable weirdo," adding, "It's important to exist as myself, and the character carries the message that there's no need to fit into the world's mold."

In Season 2, the backstory of the Addams Family will be further developed. Director Tim Burton hinted, "The family narrative will be explored more deeply, featuring a story spanning three generations of women: Wednesday, her mother Morticia, and her grandmother Hester Frump."

Interest in Korean culture will also be highlighted in Season 2. Through the character Enid, who loves K-pop, Korean culture will be naturally integrated into the work.

Ortega mentioned, "There is an episode in Season 2 where Enid takes center stage, and since Enid is a character who loves Korean culture, there will be Korean songs included. I think Korean viewers will enjoy it," she hinted.

〈Wednesday〉 Season 2 Part 2 is set to be released worldwide on the 3rd of next month.
