As K-Pop girl groups and famous rappers are set to perform in mainland China, attention is drawn to whether this could be a significant turning point in the long-standing easing of the Korean Wave restrictions. Depending on the Chinese authorities' decision to open up overseas content, the success of these performances may lead to an expansion of Korean cultural entry.

According to a Beijing cultural industry insider, the K-Pop girl group 'Kep1er' is scheduled to hold a fan meeting-style solo concert in Fuzhou, Fujian Province on the 13th of next month. This event, taking place at the 1,500-seat Fuzhou Convention Center, will be conducted under the name 'Fan Con Tour in Fuzhou.'

Kep1er is known to include members from China and Japan, and it is reported to have relatively high recognition within China. Rapper Kid Milli is also said to be preparing for a performance in Fuzhou on the 14th.

The industry anticipates that if this performance is successful, more concerts by Korean artists will follow in China. One insider stated, "Recently, Chinese entertainment industry officials have been visiting Korea to actively negotiate performances," adding, "The overall atmosphere in the entertainment market is rising."

Recently, HYBE has established a local corporation in China, and Tencent Music has become the second-largest shareholder of SM Entertainment, increasing expectations for cultural exchanges between the two countries' pop culture industries.

Meanwhile, indie singer-songwriter Black Skirt has held concerts in several cities in China last year and this year. However, he is known to be a U.S. national.

The Chinese authorities recently announced the opening of excellent overseas program content. Although there was no specific mention of overseas drama quotas, it included provisions to open the formal import, distribution, and remake of overseas content by reorganizing related laws and regulations.

These measures and the news of K-Pop artists' performances are drawing more attention, coinciding with President Xi Jinping's push for a visit to Korea. It is reported that President Xi is likely to visit Korea to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit to be held in Gyeongju at the end of October.

However, it cannot be overlooked that the Korean Wave restrictions in China were unofficial sanctions, meaning the situation could change at any time. In fact, in May, the performance of the boy group EPEX was canceled, and G-Dragon's exhibition in Shanghai also could not be held. Last July, the Beijing concert of the rock band 'Say Sue Me' was also canceled.
