With the release of 'Detective Conan: The Truth of 17 Years Ago' approaching on September 19 (Wednesday), the character trailers of three individuals entangled in the incident from 17 years ago have been unveiled. 'Detective Conan: The Truth of 17 Years Ago' is a mystery animation surrounding the legendary long-term chess player and the murder case of an American tycoon, which remains an unsolved case, featuring the second-in-command of the black organization, 'Rum', the 'Kuroda' inspector from the Metropolitan Police Department, and Conan. The long-standing enmity with the black organization, the ultimate villain in the 'Detective Conan' universe, is revealed in 'Detective Conan: The Truth of 17 Years Ago', which draws attention with the release of character trailers for the three main characters. Under the theme of 'Each 17 Years Ago', three character videos featuring Wakita Kanenori, Wakasa Rumi, and Kuroda Hyōe have been released, reconstructing the memories of the incident from 17 years ago from each character's perspective, their current actions, and hidden secrets, heightening expectations for the film.
First, in Rum's character trailer, his thorough personality is showcased as he is willing to disguise and infiltrate to obtain the information he desires. Rum hides his true appearance and, under the alias 'Wakita Kanenori', works as a chef at Iroha Sushi, a shop next to the Mori Detective Agency. The line, "He left only one blemish," along with the unfolding video, raises curiosity about what blemish the real power of the black organization has left behind. Additionally, through his photographic memory, which allows him to capture clues, he hints at his imminent movements, adding suspense.
Wakasa Rumi's character trailer catches the eye with its twists and turns. In stark contrast to the timid and flustered demeanor previously shown, the trailer opens with the dazzling action of a bodyguard with agile movements, revealing Wakasa Rumi's story as he comes to Conan's school as a homeroom teacher with a clear motive for revenge regarding past incidents while hiding his identity. As he gradually encounters individuals related to the incident from 17 years ago, Wakasa's actions hint at shocking twists, amplifying curiosity.
In the concurrently released Kuroda Hyōe character trailer, the story of how he became entangled in the incident from 17 years ago, acquiring a large burn scar on one side of his face and a blind eye, is revealed, along with the fact that he had been in a coma for over ten years, raising expectations. Furthermore, it hints at Conan becoming a joker in the truth of the case that Inspector Kuroda is trying to uncover, creating anticipation for a new chemistry in their collaboration. Meanwhile, the character trailer, which contains more interesting behind-the-scenes details, features faces from the main story related to the three characters, stealing the spotlight with popular characters. In particular, the character trailer for Kuroda features the past of being dispatched to Nagano Prefecture, along with the appearance of Morofushi Takaaki from 'Detective Conan: The Residue of the Blind Eye', adding to the excitement.
