Tving Apologizes for Plagiarism Controversy Over 'Dear X' Poster

The domestic OTT platform Tving officially apologized for the plagiarism controversy regarding the promotional poster for the original series 〈Dear X〉, which was pointed out to be similar to a Chinese film poster.

On the 10th, Tving stated in an official statement, "We recognized the similarity to a specific reference in the 〈Dear X〉 launch poster late and immediately ceased its use," adding, "We sincerely apologize for causing inconvenience due to not carefully monitoring the production process."

The work at the center of the controversy, 〈Dear X〉, is a drama based on a webtoon of the same name. In particular, it has garnered significant attention from the production stage as it is directed by Lee Eung-bok, who has directed hit works such as 〈Mr. Sunshine〉 and 〈Goblin〉. Actress Kim Yoo-jung attempts a transformation by playing the role of Baek Ah-jin, a popular actress who hides her cruel true nature.

The problematic poster is a promotional material recently unveiled ahead of its release on November 6. The poster features Kim Yoo-jung gazing through a tear in the shape of the letter 'X'.

It was pointed out online that this poster is very similar in composition and concept to the poster of the Chinese film 〈The Devotion of Suspect X〉, which was released in 2017.

Upon recognizing this controversy, Tving immediately took measures to completely cease the use of the poster. A company official expressed their commitment to preventing recurrence by stating, "We will pay attention to ensure that similar incidents do not happen again through thorough review processes."
