Director Park Chan-wook, "My Favorite Movie of the Year is 'One Battle After Another', Series is 'Adolescence'"

Director Park Chan-wook revealed the movies and series that impressed him the most in 2025.

According to an interview published on the 1st (local time) by the American media 'Vulture', Director Park selected Paul Thomas Anderson's new film 〈One Battle After Another〉 as the best movie of the year.

〈One Battle After Another〉 is set in a fictional America under a far-right regime, depicting the struggle of a protagonist who was once part of a radical leftist group as he fights to rescue his kidnapped daughter. The film gained attention with Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role.

Regarding his choice of this film, Director Park stated, "As someone who spent their college years in Korea in the 1980s, I was deeply moved to see the life of a failed revolutionary depicted on screen."

Additionally, Director Park named the Netflix UK drama 〈Adolescence〉 as the TV series of the year. Starring Stephen Graham and directed by Philip Barantini, this four-part drama captures the disintegrating daily life of a family as a 13-year-old boy is arrested on murder charges, using a one-take technique. Director Park expressed his appreciation for the drama, saying, "The characters passing by in the background also delivered outstanding performances."
