The high-stakes thriller film 〈The Housemaid〉, which has already confirmed a sequel and is a global hit, draws attention with its special parallel theory with the Korean film 〈Hidden Face〉 (2024), which is a hot topic in Korea.
Set to be released on January 28, the film 〈The Housemaid〉 tells the story of a suspicious housemaid, Millie (Sydney Sweeney), who works in a perfect mansion while hiding her past, and confronts the lies behind closed doors as she gets entangled with Nina (Amanda Seyfried), the wife who hides secrets, and Andrew (Brandon Sklenar), the perfect husband, in this high-stakes twist thriller based on a world bestseller.
Meanwhile, the Korean film 〈Hidden Face〉 is a reinterpretation of the Spanish film of the same name, starting with the story of Mi-joo (Park Ji-hyun), who fills the void left by her beloved partner, Soo-yeon (Jo Yeo-jeong), who suddenly disappears, and Seong-jin (Song Seung-heon), who commits infidelity driven by desire, highlighting a thrilling love triangle.
Both works foreshadow twists through the narrative of revealing secrets hidden behind closed spaces. In 〈The Housemaid〉, the attic of Millie is utilized, while 〈Hidden Face〉 uses a hidden room, allowing the audience to observe events occurring in the limited space of the mansion. Additionally, 〈The Housemaid〉 and 〈Hidden Face〉 prominently feature provocative relationships that capture attention. Just like in 〈Hidden Face〉, where a woman intervenes between two men, 〈The Housemaid〉 also creates thrilling suspense as the suspicious housemaid Millie appears before a seemingly perfect couple.
The film 〈The Housemaid〉 will hit Korean theaters on January 28.
