BTS Unveils 4th Generation Official Light Stick... Controversy Over Discontinuation of Old Light Stick Support

HYBE Reveals Design and Features of 4th Generation Light Stick on the 5th... Chic Black with 'Color Shaking' Feature; Will Continue Until May in Las Vegas, but Only '4th Generation' Wireless Connection from June Busan Concert; Fans Criticize 'Special Edition' Bought at High Price, Used Only a Few Times; Expectations and Concerns Rise Ahead of New Album 'Arirang' Release on March 20

BTS has introduced a new official light stick (Army Bomb) ahead of their full group comeback, but there is controversy within the fandom regarding the policy to discontinue support for the existing version.

On the 5th (Korean time), HYBE released a teaser video for the 4th Generation Light Stick on BTS's official YouTube channel. The new light stick has adopted a sleek all-black design, moving away from the previous white tone, and features the BTS logo engraved in the center of the globe. Notably, the interactive elements have been significantly enhanced, including a 'Color Shaking' feature that randomly changes colors when shaken and a dedicated app for history tracking.

◆ "Do I Have to Buy a New One for the Busan Concert?"

The issue lies with the wireless control (Central Control) support policy. According to HYBE's announcement, until the May 28th Las Vegas concert, the existing 3rd generation and Special Edition (SE) light sticks can still be wirelessly connected, but starting from the June 12th Busan concert, only the 4th generation light stick will be supported for central control at the venue. This means that to enjoy a synchronized cheering experience with stage lighting in concerts after June, fans will be required to purchase the new light stick. The previous 'Map of the Soul Special Edition' has officially ended sales.

◆ Fandom: "HYBE's Greed" vs "Technological Advancement"

In response, some fans have expressed strong dissatisfaction. Online communities have seen comments like "I couldn't even use the Special Edition properly due to COVID and military service," and "HYBE is excessively chasing profits." On the other hand, the company emphasized the technological upgrades, stating, "During the exclusive period for the 4th generation, enhanced lighting effects and precise direction will be provided."

Meanwhile, BTS will make their comeback with a new album 'Arirang' on March 20th and will embark on a world tour starting in Goyang on April 9th. Specific sales information for the 4th generation light stick will be released on the Weverse Shop at 11 AM on the 6th.
