The film “The Man Who Lives with the King” has held the No. 1 spot at the weekend box office for eight straight weeks, showing no signs of slowing even after it surpassed the 15 million-admissions milestone.
After “Myeongryang” and “Extreme Job,” it becomes the third-highest-grossing title of all time… Will the rankings change this week?
According to the Korean integrated ticketing network, director Jang Hang-jun’s “The Man Who Lives with the King” drew about 511,000 viewers last weekend (27–29), accounting for a 42.2% sales share to take No. 1. It’s a remarkable run—since it opened on the 4th of last month, it has never once fallen from the weekend top spot.
Its current cumulative audience total is about 15.615 million, narrowing the gap with “Extreme Job” (16.26 million), the all-time No. 2 title, to roughly 650,000 viewers. With the momentum it’s showing right now, it looks all but certain that it will overtake “Extreme Job” this week and move up to No. 2 among the highest-grossing domestic releases of all time.
“Project Hail Mary” Surpasses 1 Million… Advance Ticket Rate Jumps to the Top, Driven by the “Loki” Craze
The SF blockbuster “Project Hail Mary,” starring Ryan Gosling, is also performing strongly. Over the weekend, it drew about 391,000 viewers for a cumulative total of 1.15 million—comfortably clearing the 1 million mark early.
Telling the story of Grace, a science teacher who sets out into space to save humanity, and her special bond with an alien entity called “Loki,” the film currently sits at an advance ticket rate of 24.1%. That puts it ahead of “The Man Who Lives with the King,” moving it into first place and making it all the more interesting to watch how the box-office landscape could shift from here.
Animation Remains Strong, With an Emotional Melodrama Added to the Mix
In the mid-to-lower rankings, animation’s staying power stood out. The Japanese anime “Detective Conan: The Last Wizard of the Century” took third place (48,000 viewers), while Pixar Studios’ latest release “Hoppers” ranked fourth (44,000 viewers), drawing both family audiences and devoted fans.
Meanwhile, the Japanese melodrama “The Song You Left Behind,” adapted from a popular novel of the same name, climbed to third place with an 11.2% advance ticket rate, emerging as a new box-office wild card. As the spring season gets underway, it’s winning attention from viewers looking for an emotional story.
