'Spider-Man 4' Reaches 1.2 Trillion Won in Record Time, Closes In on All-Time Box Office No. 1

'Fastest to $900 Million', Web-Slinger Sweeps North American Theaters

The film 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' (hereafter 'Spider-Man 4') is rewriting the box office record books after surpassing $900 million in North American ticket sales faster than any film in history, equivalent to about 1.2146 trillion won.

As of the previous day, 'Spider-Man 4' had grossed $903.63 million in North America, according to Box Office Mojo, a film-industry box office tracker, on Sept. 5 local time. The milestone came just 36 days after its release, nearly two weeks faster than the previous record of 50 days, set by 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' in 2015.

With the main Labor Day holiday weekend now underway in the United States, 'Spider-Man 4' is expected to widen its lead at the box office. Variety, a U.S. entertainment trade publication, projects the film will take in an additional $22 million over the four-day holiday weekend.

The publication said that, given the film's explosive momentum, surpassing the final North American box office record of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' — $936 million — is all but certain.

The film's global performance has been just as dominant. 'Spider-Man 4' has earned a total of $2.34513 billion worldwide to date, the third-highest total in history behind 'Avatar' ($2.92371 billion in 2009) and 'Avengers: Endgame' ($2.79944 billion in 2019).

The film follows an isolated hero, Peter Parker, played by 'Tom Holland', as he faces a new villain alone in the harsh reality that all his friends and even his romantic partner have forgotten he exists.

The film has earned strong marks for both its broad appeal and its artistic merits, maintaining an audience Popcornmeter score of 97% and a critics' Tomatometer score of 89% on the U.S. film-review site Rotten Tomatoes.
