Unfazed by religious persecution, he faces criticism head-on
Singer and producer 'Park Jin-young' has taken a firm stance on allegations that the Bible study group he leads, 'Firstfruits,' is 'heretical' and a 'cult.' In a lecture video posted on the Firstfruits YouTube channel on the 3rd, he expressed his determination not to be shaken by outside scrutiny and criticism.
'Park Jin-young' described the situation in the video, saying, "We’ve now started hearing a lot of talk that we’re 'heretics' and a 'cult,' and facing serious persecution." Still, he asserted, "We won’t resolve this in our own way. It will be resolved appropriately, at the right time." Warning against artificial defenses such as doctrinal arguments or organized responses in the comments, he said, "Avoiding persecution isn’t something we can do through our own efforts. God will take care of the resolution, too," showing an equanimous reliance on his religious beliefs.
His response is consistent with how he handled allegations of ties to the so-called 'Salvation Church' that surfaced in 2018. At the time, he also drew a clear line on social media, saying, "The Bible study group has absolutely nothing to do with any particular organization," and, "I don’t belong to any church or denomination because I don’t want to be tied to a particular sect."

A turning point at 40: faltering confidence meets faith
In the lecture, 'Park Jin-young' went beyond addressing the allegations, opening up about his inner transformation as he explored the profound topic of 'misplaced confidence and true confidence.' He revealed that even for him, a producer who had risen to the top of South Korea’s music industry, '40' was a time of painful setbacks.
"When I turned 40, things didn’t go my way for the first time. Before that, even when I failed, if I kept trying, I eventually succeeded. I lived that way for 40 years," he recalled of his achievement-driven life. He continued, "So I didn’t need God. But when I first faced a desperate situation at 40, I had no idea what to do." He added, "It was only after I lost confidence that I turned to God. It’s when human confidence crumbles that faith becomes necessary." His remarks suggest that the spiritual insight he gained after confronting his human limitations became the driving force behind the 'Firstfruits' group he leads today.
