Jeon Yu-seong (76), known as the 'Godfather of Comedy', has been unable to attend the Busan International Comedy Festival, which opens next week, due to health reasons.

The Busan International Comedy Festival announced on the 22nd that Jeon Yu-seong will not be able to attend the 'Comedy Book Concert', a side event taking place at Dongseo University in Haeundae, Busan, on the 6th of next month. Originally, Jeon Yu-seong was scheduled to take the stage with Lee Hong-ryeol and Jeong Seon-hee to discuss comedians who have transformed into writers, but the lineup has been changed to Lee Hong-ryeol and Jeong Seon-hee, and the related poster has also been revised.

Jeon Yu-seong's absence is said to be a decision made due to his recent health deterioration.

However, the book concert event planned by Jeon Yu-seong will proceed as intended, with Lee Hong-ryeol taking over the purpose.

Jeon Yu-seong serves as the honorary chairman of the Busan International Comedy Festival and received positive reviews last year for presenting a comedy film festival as part of the festival-related events.

Debuting as a broadcast writer for TBC's 'Show Show Show' in 1969, Jeon Yu-seong is also known for being the first person to use the term 'comedian' during a time when they were referred to as comic actors or comedians.

Jeon Yu-seong actively performed nationwide tours to celebrate his 50th anniversary in 2019, but recently appeared on comedian Jo Hye-ryeon's SNS looking gaunt, raising concerns about his health.
