Disney+’s Marvel Television original series 〈WonderMan〉 has received rave reviews right after its release, being called “the best series since 〈Loki〉” and “the essence of Hollywood-style black comedy,” while it has also unveiled a ‘Character Guide Video’ that highlights the complex relationships between characters.
This video features the lead actors explaining their characters in an interview format, combined with Marvel’s signature humorous direction, kindly unraveling the unique worldview of the work and the secret connections between the characters.
Aspiring Actor Simon Chasing His Dreams and the Mysterious Aide Trevor
The most eye-catching character in the video is the protagonist ‘Simon Williams,’ played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. He is an unknown actor dreaming of starring in the legendary Hollywood superhero movie 〈WonderMan〉, and his desperation for auditions is unmatched. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II mentioned, “Simon is an actor who hasn’t made it yet, but he has a tremendous secret,” hinting that his challenge will be a superhuman journey beyond just a success story.
Additionally, Ben Kingsley, who left a strong impression in 〈Iron Man 3〉 and 〈Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings〉, returns as ‘Trevor Slattery’ to showcase a peculiar chemistry with Simon. Trevor appears to be a mentor helping Simon, but Ben Kingsley’s cryptic remark that “there’s something he hasn’t told Simon” amplifies curiosity about the hidden twists between the two.
Wit that Pokes Fun at Hollywood… Directed by Master Destin Daniel Cretton
Destin Daniel Cretton, director of 〈Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings〉, is the executive producer of 〈WonderMan〉, a black comedy that combines the birth of a ‘superstar’ and a ‘superhero’ with the behind-the-scenes of Hollywood auditions. Director Cretton stated, “When you chase your dreams desperately, trials are bound to follow,” and through the intersection of Simon’s lines and Trevor’s advice, he hinted at unpredictable developments.
In addition to Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley, Zlatko Burik from 〈Superman〉 (2025) also joins to enhance the quality of the play. The fresh attempts that break the mold of existing Marvel series and the solid episodes composed of eight parts are offering fans a new charm of Marvel.
The delightful portrayal of the secrets hidden behind Hollywood’s glamorous lights and the challenges of youth can be enjoyed in all episodes of 〈WonderMan〉 now available on Disney+.
