Writing about an actor who seems to be everywhere on TV can feel almost too obvious, but Yoon Byung-hee is in the midst of another prime that is impossible to ignore. Yoon Byung-hee has recently appeared in 〈My Royal Nemesis〉, 〈Sold Out on You〉 and 〈21segi Daegunbuin〉 — three dramas that aired around the same time — and earlier this year he even made his way to theaters with 〈Method Acting〉 (2026), extending his hot streak.

Some may remember Yoon Byung-hee as a scene-stealer or a standout supporting actor from 〈The Outlaws〉 (2017), the dramas 〈Stove League〉 and 〈Vincenzo〉. But he made an unforgettable impression on audiences as the Joseonjok character nicknamed "Gasoline," who posed as a public security officer in 〈The Outlaws〉. Having previously played a Joseonjok waiter in 〈The Yellow Sea〉 (2010) and a People's Liberation Army soldier in 〈Seobu Jeonseon〉 (2015), he had studied Chinese and the Joseonjok accent. That foundation from years of obscurity helped him win the role in 〈The Outlaws〉. With a performance so convincing it completely fooled Jang Chen’s (Yoon Kye-sang) crew, he left such a strong impression that some viewers jokingly mistook him for a real Joseonjok actor.

The strong impact Yoon made in 〈The Outlaws〉 led to him becoming a scene-stealer in many subsequent projects. A producer from 〈The Outlaws〉 recommended him for tvN’s 〈Mr. Sunshine〉, and Yoon later went on to appear in 〈The Outlaws 2〉 (2022). In SBS's 2019 drama 〈Stove League〉, he played a scout team leader who, though eccentric in appearance, literally traveled the country to find raw talent. He bunked in cheap rooms while scouting prospects, and when players were being overworked he clashed with coaches without hesitation. His relentless grit and human warmth deepened the drama's emotional resonance.

But if I had to choose a single favorite Yoon Byung-hee performance, it would be his role as Investigator Joo Byung-deok in JTBC's 2024 drama 〈A Woman Different by Day and Night〉. Playing off Prosecutor Gye Ji-woong (Choi Jin-hyuk) and Im Soon (Lee Jung-eun), he helped create countless comic scenes worth saving as GIFs. The show was essentially a showcase for Yoon's charms. His impeccable timing and the lively "ping-pong" exchanges among the three carried the series' energy, making his work more than just functional supporting acting — it was a cheat code that kept the show's tone consistently upbeat.

In the currently popular SBS drama 〈My Royal Nemesis〉, Yoon Byung-hee's crisp delivery and ability to inhabit a character shine again. As Cha Se-gye's (Heo Nam-jun) loyal right-hand man, Son, the department head, trades sharp lines with a character described as 'a monster created by capitalism,' delivering dialogue that casts him as both a faithful retainer and a sparring partner and firmly anchors the show's humor. At a decisive moment, Son even declares, "That's money-wasting," a line that helps make Cha Se-gye an unlikable yet oddly sympathetic villain. In the recently concluded SBS drama 〈Sold Out on You〉, Yoon once more proved himself a master of on-screen chemistry. His character Kang Moo-won harbors an unrequited affection for Matthew Lee (Ahn Hyo-seop), adding harmless fun to the healing rom-com. His habit of blurting out, "Let's start again," to Matthew Lee became one of the drama’s most reliable punch lines.

Yoon Byung-hee is not limited to comic work. He is always ready to show a colder side. In the 2024 film 〈She Died〉 he played Son Jong-hak, a character who served as a key to the mystery and allowed him to deliver a chilling performance. The brutal hand-to-hand combat he staged with Gu Jeong-tae, played by Byun Yo-han, left a lasting impression and showed a different side of his on-screen chemistry. His noir turn in the 2023 film 〈Loan Shark Boy〉 is another example: as the man who drags Lee Kang-jin (Yoo Seon-ho) into the brutal world of loan sharks, he exudes a terrifying aura and hints at his potential in new genres. Having risen from scene-stealer to on-screen chemistry expert and from supporting player to an indispensable asset, he is ready to expand his range across genres.
