Coldplay frontman Chris Martin spoke out this week about the viral jumbotron moment that occurred during last month’s concert in Massachusetts.
Direct Mention of 'Boston Concert Debacle'
During Coldplay's Music of the Spheres World Tour concert held on August 18 at Craven Park in Hull, England, Martin took time to interact with fans and read signs from the audience.
"I’ll say hello," Martin said. "Hardcore super fans on the floor, I see you. Thank you for letting us come and visit."
Upon noticing a sign held by an audience member that read '3 times in 3 months', Martin remarked, "You were at that Boston concert. Well, great, thanks for coming back to that debacle," referencing the July 16 concert at Gillette Stadium.
Viral 'Kiss Cam' Video Sparks Infidelity Allegations
At the Boston concert, a video went viral showing a man and woman trying to quickly escape the screen after being caught on the jumbotron. In the video posted on TikTok on July 17, the couple was seen hugging each other before realizing they were on the jumbotron and hurriedly trying to hide.
Martin humorously narrated the audience's reactions to the couple during the video. "Oh, look at these two. It’s okay, huh? Oh, what’s going on?" he said, and when the two hid their faces, he joked, "They’re either having an affair or just very shy. Not sure."
Repercussions Leading to CEO and Executive Resignations
This moment went viral on social media, and online users identified the two as Andy Byron, CEO of Astronomer, and Christine Cabot, Chief Human Resources Officer. The Astronomer board initiated an official investigation into the incident, and both eventually resigned from the company.

Clarification: 'Not a Kiss Cam but a Jumbotron'
At the Craven Park concert on Monday, Martin stated that the viral moment would not prevent the band from interacting with fans.
"We’ve been doing this for a long time, and it’s only recently that it’s... yeah," he said. "When life throws you lemons, you have to make lemonade. So we will keep going. Because we will meet some of you."
According to another TikTok video, Martin clarified that the jumbotron segment of the band’s show was 'not a kiss cam.'
"This is not a kiss cam, and it never will be, and it has never been!" he said. "It’s not a kiss cam. It’s been branded a kiss cam for life because of one couple. Trust me, this is called a jumbotron."
"We’ve been doing this for a very long time, and we pick people to say hello to. And sometimes it becomes an international scandal. But most of the time, we’re just trying to say hello to people," he added.
