A sneak peek at cinema heaven for 10 days—beyond the screen

Asia’s biggest film festival '31st Busan International Film Festival' (BIFF) has unveiled, ahead of its October opening, the official poster that will serve as the festival’s face.

The poster for this year, announced by the Busan International Film Festival secretariat on the 7th, adopts 'Gun-sang' (群像) as its core motif. By capturing the diverse expressions and gestures of audiences aimed at the screen on canvas, it delivers a weighty message about who the true stars of the festival are.

The work was led in planning and design by 'Choi Soondae', the art director who has worked in step with the festival since the festival’s second edition, boosting confidence in the project. The eyes of the master who has spent more than 28 years cultivating Busan’s film landscape have seeped into every corner of the poster.

Choi said, "The very presence of audiences who always quietly watch from their seats is the period at the end that completes the film festival." He added, "I visualized the philosophy that 'Every moment of the audience'—those times when people put down roots on site, stay, and wait for the next work—is already a great film."

'31st Busan International Film Festival', set to make cinephiles around the world’s hearts race, will kick off its 10-day run from Oct. 6 to 15 at 'Busan Cinema Center'.
