The Perfect Visuals of a Myth, Proven by the 66.8% Booking Rate—‘IMAX Syndrome’
According to data from the Integrated Ticketing Network for admission to theaters, the ‘Odyssey’ playing on screens as of the fifth pulled in more than 234,000 people the day before (accounting for 54.8% of sales share), holding firm as the domestic ‘No. 1 at the box office’. Then, starting from 7 a.m. on the current day, it comfortably cleared the 3 million viewer threshold. Bringing Homer’s immortal epic ‘Odyssey’ to the screen, the film renders the majestic journey of ‘Odysseus’ (played by Matt Damon) with dense, full detail.
Above all, it captivated the film world by becoming the first in movie history to shoot the entire length with ‘IMAX’ cameras. The total length of film consumed during production reaches a remarkable 640km. Reflecting the director’s distinctive philosophy, the film minimized reliance on ‘computer graphics (CG)’ and insisted on real-world filming—turning the spaces of an ancient myth into an awe-inspiring visual experience.
These technical achievements directly translated into a surge in demand for special-theater screenings. Major ‘IMAX screening venues’ nationwide recorded sellouts across every time slot, resembling a fierce booking battle. The real-time booking rate remains locked at the top as well, at 66.8% as of 9 a.m. that day (about 1.013 million booked viewers).
Meanwhile, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ starring Tom Holland drew selections from more than 121,000 people the previous day, placing second with more than 6.511 million cumulative viewers. Following behind, the theatrical animated film ‘Detective Conan: The Fallen Angel of the Highway’ (about 32,000) took third, while ‘Okay, Madam 2’ starring Uhm Jung-hwa ranked fourth (about 28,000).
